Show BIG ORDERS FOR ROLLING STOCK Notice was received from Denver yesterday by tho local officials of the Donver & Rio Grande railroad that Vice President Brown had awarded contracts to various car companies for new rolling Btock which will cost in the aggregate $1,100,000. Tho contracts represent one of tho largest Investments yet made by tho company for similar equipment, 1,200 cars in all being represented by tho various contracts. The separate orders or-ders aro for 700 box cars, 100 Btock cars, 350 all Btcel coal cars and 50 cabooses. The cars will all be of thoroughly modorn construction. The box cars will be of 100,000 pounds capacity, 3C foot long Insldo measurements. Tho entire frame "will bo of steel and no wood will enter into, the construction except for flooring, lining and sheeting. sheet-ing. The stock cars will be of the same general construction, and will be 36 feet 6 inches in length ' Tho coal cars will be made entirely of Btnel and will havp Bide drop doors. The cabooseB will be 85 feot long and will be of wood -wjth steel under framo. |
