For years the Reds have turned loose men who have played great ball for other teaniB. Pitchers Jean Dubuc of the Tigers and Elmer Brown of the St. Louis Browns are the latest examples. Cincinnati Cin-cinnati picked Dubuc after he had pitched great ball for Kotre Dame. He haB tried in Cincinnati two seasons and then turned over to Montreal. Now he Is the star pitching recruit of Detroit club. Red Nelson recommended Elmer Brown to the Reds last spring. Griff procured an option on him from ihe Columbus club, which had farmed him out to Akron.' Brown was In poor share when he reported to the Rods. Griffith decided he wouldn't do because be-cause of his failure to produce a good r"T22 " ike curve ball. Biown leturned to Akron and had another big car Now he promises to stick with the Browns Sam Crawford, Oscar Stanage, Jim Delahanty, Mike Donlin. Cy Soymour, Al Bridvell, MIko Mowrey, Rebel Oakes, Miller Huggins, Orvi& Overall and Harry Steinfoldt are other players play-ers who starred after being dropped by the Cincinnati team. |
