Suffragettes received a word of encouragement fiom the 'Army league of the United States," which has decided that Its memborshlp may include "all citizens of good Tepute, both men and women." Tho organization, while only recently recent-ly formed, includes in Its membership member-ship such names as Theodore Roosevelt, Roose-velt, Gramillc Dodge, Robert Bacon, Curtis Guild, William C Endlcott, August Au-gust Belmont, Henry A. Dupont and tho adjutants general and prominent militia officers of many of tho state guards The league is nonpolltical. Following an announcement today that in the near future a meeting Is lo be called to elect permanent officers, offi-cers, a committee representing tho lcasue and consisting of Honry White, former ambassador to France, Lieu- j tenant General J C. Bates, U S. A., n retired, and Frederick L. Huldokoper, I Issued a circular letter explaining Its 9 aims and objects. The letter says In part. H "We believe that we should have 9 n regular army strong enough to meet i the emergencies of tho hour and that H hack of it engaged in their civic pur- D suits should be a sufficient number P of trained citizens to arugmont this 9 army to a force adequate to meet the Q requirements of war with a first class E power D "The Army league desires, to im- I press upon the people of this conn- I try the fact that all citizens have a j certain military as well as civic re- sponslbillty and that they should pre- pare themselves as fully as possi- ble to discharge this responsibility In an efficient manner Preparedness is the best Insurance against war This I can only be done in tlmo of peace " I |
