Show $19,000 OFFERED FOR BILLSWEENEY Boston, July 24. Garry Herrmann, chief owner of the Cincinnati Baseball Base-ball club, president of the National Baseball commission and one of the astute leaders of baseball, haB offered of-fered $10,000 for the release of Capt, Bill Sweeney of the Boston Pilgrims. As eager as James E. Gaffney, treasurer and chief owner, and John M. Ward, president of tho Boston nationals, na-tionals, are for trades, they would not Bell Bill Sweeney for $10,000 or anything like that sum. Ho Is worth more than any baseball team would reasonably offer. James R. McAJeer, president of the Boston Red Sox, needs a second haseman like BUI Sweeney, and If he had the man he would be satisfied that Boston would win the American league pennant. B'ut American league magnates do not praise National Na-tional league players or vice versa and the American league could not get a player like BUI Sweeney out of the National league for any amount of money. |
