Show oo D. & R. G. BRANCH UP LITTLE COTTONWOOD Salt Lake, July 4. According to a report, said to be based on good authority, au-thority, the Denver & Rio Grande officials of-ficials have reached a decson to build a branch up Little Cottonwood canyon can-yon to the Alta mining camp, situated situ-ated at the -head of the canyon. In addition to the revenue which Is expected ex-pected from tho transportation of ores from the camp It is estimated that a considerable amount will be realized from carrying granite from the quarrlos in the canyon to this city. Work on the construction of the road will probably begin within a fortnight, so that the road may be corapelted In time to transport granite gran-ite to Salt Lake for UBe In the new building at the University of Utah and also the now Ktate capltol, which will probably be In course of erection by Noverabpr. Tho line will Join the main road at Midvale. There Is at present a spur of road running to the gravol pits, about one mllo and a hair rrom Mid-vale. Mid-vale. The extension will require the construction of about six and ono-half ono-half miles to WaBatch and about two mllos beyond that point When the road !b completed, it will be possible to ship ores that are practicaly unprofitable under the present handicap which tho shippers must meet in transportation and tho output of the mines may then be Increased. In-creased. The termfnus of the road wll be but a short distance from the end of the tramway from Alta to Tanner's flat and It is likely that tho shipments can be continued the year round. |
