Show uv La Follette Charges Postal Pos-tal Department With Espionage Washington, Aug. 13. Senator La Follette today charged officials of tho postoffice department with rifling his mail in an attempt to learn the results re-sults of an investigation he wns making mak-ing into conditions in tho hospital service He showed the senate a bun-die bun-die of letters which he declared had been opened before he received them. "My mall was subjectd to an espionage es-pionage almost Russian in character," declared Senator La Follette. "I have here a bundle of letters showing that my mall was opned In violation of the law and rifled by some one hostile to the purposes I had In making mak-ing the Investigation." The charge was made in connection connec-tion with tho passage of the postoffice postof-fice appropriation which would permit per-mit postal employes to join associations associa-tions and potltion congress for re-dross re-dross or grievance. Senator La Follette said he had sent out 15,0 0 letters to postal employes em-ployes asking for exact conditions In the service. |
