Show ALASKA DISASTER IN A MON In his sermon at the Methodist church Sunday evening, Rev. F. V. Fisher spoke upon "The Supreme Thing of Religion Is Life." His remarks re-marks were based upon the conclusion that whatever makes life richer, larger larg-er and more worth living counts for most, while that which weakens, lowers low-ers and ruins life should be put aside The recent eruption of an Alaskan volcano was used as an illustration of the thoughts conveyed in the address. Said Rev. Fisher: "ML Katmai on the Alaskan coast has brought darkness, silence, death. The sun and the rain can well say, 'I am come that you may have life,' so Christ said, for he pre-eminently, by his ideals, leadership, comradeship and inspiration puts into men's llve6 the things that combat death, decay and degeneration and makes for the highest, noblest life. "The characteristics of life are very marked. Life Is the power that counteracts coun-teracts disease and decay and wins out in the fight; life is health, life means growth, life means Indhldual-ity Indhldual-ity and maturity. Now of a man who has caught the real spirit of Christ this is all true; he has the strength to grip with sin and win out; he is sane, broad, strong, well; ho is himself, even growing bigger nnd broader and nobler till he reaches the maturity of a clean, large manhood. "The question of religion Is more and more not one of creeds, organizations organiza-tions or forms, but of the sturdy, clean manhood and womanhood ; tnore and more tho things that make for death must go and the things that make for life grow in power In the city of our lives " |
