Scruggs Is not given to boasting and his story of the pursuit of the two bandits would make poor loading for the boy who dotes on Diamond Dick's .method of following follow-ing outlaws. "Thoro was another follow and 1 took up their trail," he said, yawning, "after the bank had been robbed, and we followed it for several rulles. It's about thirty miles from Coalville to Jnckson Hole, and the Whitneys woro making for that part of the country. There were a number of counter trails and at some point we got mixed up and wound up by trailing down two Indian bucks. That's how near wo came to capturing the Whitneys" Scruggs says that despite the fact that there is a reward of $7,000 offered of-fered for the capture of the Whitneys, Whit-neys, ho does not think there is much danger of tho outlaws being arrested at tho presont time. The Whitneys. ho savs, have a great many friends all through tho Jackson Hole country who are ready to lend them assistance. assist-ance. Should tho Whitneys leave that particular part of the country at any timo their capture would be almost certain, according to the marshal. |
