J Salt Lake, Sept 7 Seven men were i arrested shortly after 12 o'clock yes- ,1 terday afternoon as the result of a t raid by the police on the Favorite " cigar store, on State street below Sec- I i ond South, where, It Is alleged, a pok- 1 I er game was in progress. Following the raid 'a case containing many decks of cards and stacks of poker' chips, together with a "bank roll" of $58.40, were seized by the -police and will be used as evidence. The raid was made by Sergeant Pitts, Detective Wheeling and Patrolman Patrol-man Beynon. Mo resistance was offered of-fered them and all submitted to arrest quietly. John Haden was booked on a charge of conducting a gambling game He said that he was a gardener and owned own-ed a home in the southeastern part of the city. Ho is chargtd with a felony and the amount of his ball was not Axed. T. L. Bennett, known in Colorado, Nevada and Utah as "Kid" Bennett, prize fighter. S. R. Scram gave the name of Carl Jones when booked. The other men arrested gave (heir names as J, N Cain, John Bush and Tom BuTdett. With the exception of Haden each was charged with gambling "and was released on furnish-Ing furnish-Ing $25 bail bonds. |
