Show 00 BRILLIANT AFFAIR AT THE COLONIAL One of the most brilliant social events held In Ogden this season sea-son was the ball at the Colonial last night at which Mr. and Mrs P T. Wright 'and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Henry entertained 300 guests. A number of guests from Salt Lake-were Lake-were aso present. The halPwas beautifully and artistically artis-tically decorated. Shades of yello-deepening yello-deepening into brown were very effectively ef-fectively used with an intermingling of green and autumn foliage. Festoons Fes-toons 0; yellow caught up with drop clusters of large yellow chrybanthe-mums chrybanthe-mums and dainty sprays of feathery sea weed and corresponding clusters with autumn leaves formed a lovely canopy, which was enhanced by green and yellow Japanoso lanterns The lighting scheme was perfect and shed a soft radiance through the overhead canopy tht was exceeding!) pretty. Each corner of the spacious hall was transformed Into a cozy, home-like parlor. Davenports, easy clmiro, handsome hand-some rugs, pictures, potted plants and tall palms making an initing spot to resL In the, refreshment parlors the beautiful chrysanthemums and seaweed sea-weed proyaijed as a decorative feature and a bijffet lunch was nicely served. Punch was served in the main hall. The card room was mr.de attractive for thoso' who might desire to indulge In card games. Many srilfiugly beautiful and especially es-pecially designed gowns wore observed. observ-ed. Handsome combinations of black and white, dainty laces, embroidered chiffons, and rare evening shades of pinks, apricots, blues and hronze shades, fliilsflaly combined with laces, pan velvet, mink fur and flowers, flow-ers, presented a bewildering array Attractive matrons and sweet debutantes debu-tantes demanded admiration. The hostesses wro most becomingly gowned. gown-ed. Mrs. Wright wore a lovely evening even-ing shade of apricot crepe de melco1-combined melco1-combined with gold lace, black pan velvet audlduinty gold ball trimming. A deep "V" of rich white silk lace added to tho effectiveness of the corsage, cor-sage, a rone and white aIgTetTte completed com-pleted the oiffure and diamonds added add-ed their rhnrm Mrs. Honry wore a delicate shale of pink, striklnglv combined com-bined with Venice laco and mink fur. A dainty necklace of diamonds and pearls and" a rope of pearls on tho hair completed the lovely costume. Miss Wright waa charming in white " charineuso 3atin and gold lace unl Miss Ellen made a dainty picture in pink chiffon over pink satin The musical program left nothing more to be desired and the gracloin and charmingly informal hospitality of tho hosts ami hostesses pervaded tho social atmosphere with a delightful, delight-ful, home-like feeling not often experienced ex-perienced at large atTairtj of this kind Tho absence of programs was a foa-ture foa-ture that added to the Informality of tho occasion and met with the approval ap-proval of the guests. The last meeting of the Historical society was hckl at the home of Mrs. C. II. Gosling. The study subject for j tho nfternoon, which was led ly Mrs. I A. B. Corey, was writers of short stories, ono of tho most difficult field i In which an author may achieve success suc-cess The members listened with in- ' terest to tho reading of "Farmer Eli'!" Vacation," by Alice Borvvn, and also Zona Gale's prize story. "The Ancient I Dawn." Later the president gave a ' short address along some of the line-! suggested by Miss Gale's story. The club was favored with musical selections both preceding and following follow-ing tho literary part of the program, J Mr. Felix Hughe, nephew of the hos- , toss, giving both a song and an Instru- ' mental number and Miss Dorothy Cor- , don rendering twu selections for tho piano. The pleasant homo wrs brightened by flowers and majiy beautiful and Interesting things which tho hostess had collected in her Journeys in different dif-ferent parts of the world. After enjoying en-joying refreshments which were suggestive sug-gestive of tho Thanksgiving season, the club adjourned .to meot in two weeks with Mrs. W. D. Hardy. |
