Show SMALL CREWS ON UTAH AND FLORIDA Washington, Sept. 20. While the Dreadnoughts Florida and Utah, whiclr will soon be ready for active service, are the largest vessols In the United States navy, they will bo manned by smaller crews than many other American battleships. The complement com-plement of each of the now ships will be 824 sailors and Ofi marines, exclusive of officers, while, for instance, in-stance, the battleship Arkansas la manned by 905 bluejackets and 73 marines, and tho battleship Connecticut, Connecti-cut, flagship of the Atlantic fleet, by 932 sailors and 07 marines. Naval experts say this is because the batteries bat-teries ofj tho new Dreadnoughts aro more homogenous and consequently require fewer men to man them. A sufficient number of recruits already al-ready has been enllHtcd to give the Utah its full complement About 500 men have been assigned to tho Florida Flor-ida and long before that vessel is ready for sea, the remainder of the S21 'bluojackets will have been se-! se-! cured nn |
