Show A RAID ON GA1LERS Two Hundred Chinese Are Arrested in New York New York, Jan. 10. More than 200 Chinamen are under arrest here today to-day as the result of an Invasion of Chinatown by an army of 125 policemen po-licemen late last night. The spectacular spectac-ular raid was the first open move In a war against gambling., and It netted, net-ted, beside the whosesale arrests, tho destruction of more than a score of dingy gambling dens. It was the most spectacular raid and the most thorough clean-up Chinatown Chi-natown has seen since the EIsIo SIgel murder prompted a similar war. The Invading army was led by a young Japanese, who lives in the district and has devoted many months to gathering gath-ering evidence against the Chinese gamblers. The mysterious informer, wearing a large black mask, led the raid, pointing point-ing out every suspected gambling den. Tho police stormed the doors with axes and crowbars, and in almost every ev-ery case found the place crowded. |
