It is probable prob-able that a large herd of elk will bo received by the fish and game department de-partment of Utah in (he near .future A request Tor information regarding the adaptability of forests In Utah to elk has been recehed by Fred W Chambers, state fish and 'game commissioner, com-missioner, from H W. Henshaw, chluf of the biological survey at Washington Washing-ton Mr Henshaw will be furnished with data regarding the timber conditions, the water supply both in summer and winter and the natural advantages for elk In this state Mr Chambers said today that It was probable that Chief HenBbaw would see fit to recommend a largo herd for Utah. Such action would mean that ultimately ulti-mately there will bo plenty- of elk hunting In Utah. Mr. Chambers said It was -probable that the herd would be turnoi loosf In Bis and Little Cottonwood and Mill Creek canyons The ground bordering bor-dering lakes at the head of the Cottonwood Cot-tonwood canvons will afford good grazing during the summer, and the canyons will provide plenty of shrub-berv shrub-berv In the winter. Mr. Chambers sa'd that it was essential es-sential that the forests he free of sheep, ns elk will not ptnv where sheop prazn.
