Show SORE CARS-ARE . NOW IN USE Chicago, Sopt. 23. A strong Upward Up-ward tendency In railroad freight traf- ' fie, as Indicated by tho extent to which tho roads are making uso of j equipment Is shown b'y the fortnightly bulletin Issued yesterday hyUho committee com-mittee on relations botween railroads of the American Raljway association. Tho bulletin shows that for tho poc- ' k)d ending Sept. 20, the total number. I of surplus freight cars on tho roads I of the United States, Canada and Mex-, lco had been reduced to 70,733, which Is tho lowest figure reported since December 2l last. This represents a decrease In two weeks of 1S.144 cars,' of which S.C89 are box cars, 5.154 coal cars, and 4.414 miscellaneous. miscel-laneous. The report shows, however, that thero are still more cars sidetracked, owing to lack of donmnd for them, than for tho corresponding period of last year, when a total of 54,890 was reported. Tho demand for box cars In the northwest to handle the' grain Is consldored responsible for the decrease de-crease In surplus -equipment. oo |
