A delightful and complete surprlsq was given Mrs James Briggn and Mrs Harry Johnson at tho home of the former, 51 Harrisville road, Tuesday Tues-day evening, the occasion being the celebration of their return from a three months' visit In England, given giv-en under the auspices of the Rolloi society of which Mrs. Brlggs is a member. Mrs, Peter Nordquist and daughter, Mary, arrangod the affair and Mrs Florence Cunningham, president, pres-ident, and Mrs. Wheeler, counsellor, wero among their able assistants. A fine musical program with welcoming welcom-ing speeches and the recounting by Mrs. Brlggs of tho events of their trip and the meeting of old friends whom sho had not seen for 32 years, wore pleasant features of the even- inE ., . BOJORQUES-BIDDLE. The many friends of Miss E. Gertrude Ger-trude Blddlo and Mr. William L. Bojorques will be surprised to learn of their marriage In Oakland, Cal., Monday, July 31, at the protty home ot' the bride's relatives, Mr. and Mrs. William H Pearco. Tho young couple are well and favorably fav-orably known, tho brldo being a talented tal-ented and popular piano teacher of this city, while tho groom is cashier for the Wells Fargo Co. Mr. and Mrs. Bojorques were met at the train last evening by a party of friends and amid showers of rice and congratulations, were escorted to the home of the brJde where an elaborate dinner awaited them. Miss Jessie Bates, a pharmacist of Detroit, Mich., is vlslltng with Dr. and Mrs. Bates. Miss Bates will go to Tacoma, Wash., to visit her sister. sis-ter.
