The mayor is resolved to enforce the liquor ordinance which requires saloons lo close at 9 p. m. There are many saloonkeepers who are known to obey the law to the letter. To let the less scrupulous scrup-ulous liquor dealers keep open after 9 o'clock would be to give the worst clement an advantage and punish those who arc earnestly endeavoring en-deavoring to do that which is right. In an effort to discover the men who are disregarding the law and to enforce respect for authority thc mayor has offered a reward, re-ward, which appears on another page of this paper. One hundred dollars is offered for evidence that will lead to the conviction of any party violating the early closing ordinance. This reward should prove effective in compelling respect for the law, in "offering fair treatment to all liquor dealers in the city and, above all, in protecting protect-ing the community as a whole from those who would make a farce of our restrictions on the liquor traffic.
