Show I HON KILLED I IN OGDEN I VALLEY H Ray Paes of Huntsvllle came to H the city today with 'the carcass of thc H erstwhile king of beasts In tho moun- H tains near the South Pork of Ogden H river The lion measured ten foet H from the tip of his tall to the end of H his nose, being amorig the finest specl- H mens of the lion trlbo In this country. H The beast was not named, but he has H been known many years as the "terror H of the mountains," many calves and H sheep having been killed and devoured H by him l It is said that il has been fully 20 Hl years since this lion began his deprc- H dations, all hunters, since that time, H having tried In vain to get him. Joseph Fecry, the sheepman, has had a stand- H lr5 offer of ?25 for the capture of the H animal The county paid .Mr, Pass a H bounty of $10 H The beast was caught last Friday in H a trap, but when tho trappers came to H the place where the trap was set, they H found o'nly a part of the chain. The Hl trail of blood was followed and it was Ht not far distance when they came upon H the ferocious boast crouched under H the cover of thc mountain growth of H timber, ready to make his last stand. H The animal 'was weak and emaciated H by old age and suffering of the injur- M les inflicted by the trap. A well aimed H bullet did thc work. H It was discovered that the lion had Hj gnawed the foot in the trap nearly H off. and, through his violent exertions, H had broken the chain attached to the H trap. Thc lion was so old that his Hj teeth were nearly rotted away, but H two deer, recently captured, were H found in a cache nearby, the tracks H of the lion showing that he had placed H them there. Thc beast was thin in H flesh and it is the judgment of the H hunters that he would not have sur- H vived much longer.
