Show V A DROP IN ASSESSED VALUE. Hj The State Board of Equalization has decreased the assessed H value of the railroads, express companies and other property assessed H by the board, the decrease totaling $81,000, according to notice re- H ceived today by the county clerk of "Weber county. Hl- This is a surprising statement of retrogression and calls for an Hfl explanation. The railroads have made improvements in the past H year and there has been a general expansion of all state industries H assessed by the state board of equalization. That there has been a H movement backward and that proprty has lost value will not be ac- H cepted as true until the state board points out specific proof. H The .assessed value of other property, especially that of the H smalPproperty owner, is constantly climbing higher, and it is unfair to shift a greater burden from the big concerns on to the back of the fl man oftsmnll means. B t;is possible the members of the state board can explain. Let H us hearfrom them. H Since the above was in type, a second notice has been received H from the board, stating that an error had been made and that the B total assessed value shows an increase instead of a decrease. |
