Ilcncy, who startled the world with Jus graft expo-announced expo-announced that he is tired of fighting bijferooks and was going to go on the lecture platform and tell of the ''Big Graft in San Francisco." In an interview granted in Denver recently, Mr. Ilcncy made some bold statements concerning bank directors and public corporations, corpora-tions, which in part were as follows: "Give me a list of the directors of the banks in any town in the United States, then give me the names of the directors and officers of the public utility corporations, and I can name the crooks in the town the big crooks. "The public utility corporations and the denizens of the tenderloin tender-loin together are responsible for municipal corruption. "T am done with fighting big public crooks by prosecuting them or trying to down them at the bullot box. "There always will be organized graft just so long as public utility corporations arc privately owned. "They are no longer trying to cure yellow fever and cholera. They treat the cause. Take New Orleans and the Panama canal, where the men in charge of the work did wonders. JThey have practically prac-tically eradicated tho cause of the disease. Just so with graft in municipal politics. Many of the big men the moneyed men of tho town have no sense of public duty. They arc found hand in hand with the tenderloin on election day. ., "San Francisco today is the most graft-ridden' Sity in the world. Vice stalks the streets and the municipal rottenness" is worse even than just after the fire.' '" |
