After wandering wan-dering in the Mojave desert for nearly near-ly two days, without food or water, Maria Ferrari, an Italian immigrant girl, was brought to tho homo of her brother here last night. Terrified by the malicious stories of Italians she met on tho journey from New York', sho Jumped from a Santa Fe train near Barstow, preferring to chance death on tho blazing sands of tho Mojave rather than face the terrible ter-rible fate she pictured awaiting her In San Francisco. Taking advantage of her Ignorance, of the language and American customs, cus-toms, Italian passcngcis on the train told her lurid and terrifying stories of American laws and customs, making mak-ing her lelleve ther brother, whom she was traveling to Join, was angry at her coming without his permission and would kill her. When her absence was discovered, hours after 6he hud left the train, a message was sent to the station agent at Barstow to search for her.
