Show MO LIGHT IN A DRY TOWN. I I H (Associated Press.) H Everett, "Wash., March 7. This city M cut its running expenses 550,677 last H night, and as a result must go without H street lights and other modern acces- H sorles of a prosperous municipality for H a year, the reason given being the loss H of revenue from saloon licenses when H the town went "dry" at the local op- H tlon election last fall. Mayor Hartley H cut down the municipal budget last H night and the council adopted a resolu- H tlon sustaining his action. Among the H items eliminated by the mayor were H $12,500 for street lights. $1,920 for the H health department, $17,110 for the H street and sewer work and $11,000 for H the contingent fund. H The police department was instruct- H ed to reduce its expenses $6,997. B The council attempted to raise the H needed funIs by levying a special tax, but the supreme court ruled such ac- H tlon Illegal and the pruning system M was resorted to.
