Show oo AMERICAN LEADS INSURGENT BAND SEATTLE, Wash., Feb. 12. Francis Fran-cis S. McCombs, the daring leader of a detachment of Mexican insurrectoj in battle at Mulato, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James McCombs, a wealthy retired former, who lives near this city, and a relative of A. A. Denny, the founder of Seattle. .Tho dispatches telling of the battle at Mulato contained the first information informa-tion the McCombs had received since their son went to Mexico to fight with tho insurgents. McCombs, who is 37 vears old, has served as a soldier of fortune in many wars. His first military experience experi-ence was In the lnte struggle between Turkoy and Greece, when he enlisted on a Greek warship. At the outbreak pf the Spanish-American war ho cn-Isted cn-Isted in tho United States navy, sorv-Ing sorv-Ing on the cruiser Columbia. During the Boxer rebellion In China c allied hlmiielf with a number of Englishmen in providing supplies for the insurgents. Afterwards McCombs entered the merchant marine, only to leave it when a revolution broke out In Nicaragua. He served under Mad-riz Mad-riz dunng the rebellion, and then returned re-turned to Seattle, whero he remained until hp started for Mexico last fall to join the Insurgent forces |
