There aro only two petitions on file, those of James N. Kimball anl V B Murphy. Mr. Kimball 1b asking the nomination on his own recp'nslbllity, unless It can be said that tho 100 signers to his petition socking tho nomination for him, but Mr. Murphy Is the candldato of the Socialist party for commissioner. commission-er. Applications for nomination, endorsed en-dorsed by at least 100 resident voters, have to bo on file with the city recorder re-corder on or before Octobor 14, ten days before the primary election. This is the only means by which an aspirant aspir-ant for office can get beroro the people peo-ple for nomination. Thcro in no limit lim-it made for the number of applicants for nomination, but only oi?ht can be nominated in the primary The eight personB nominated at the direct primary pri-mary will be presented to the voters of tho city on election day, November 7, tho four receiving the highest number num-ber of ovotes to be declared elected. The eight names will appoar on a single ballot which will havo no poll-tlcal poll-tlcal designation. It Is contemplated that It will be a nonpartisan ballot, tho peoplo at largo having selected those they deBlred to run for the four offices, three commissioners nnd an auditor. The manner of the balloting Is a question that is being discussed at this time. Some contend that tho voU ing machine Bhall be used, others say that It will not be necessary and that the ballot should be much" tho same as that used at the recent liquor election, elec-tion, to be voted and placed In tho box as was the practice before the votjng machine came into use. This question will be settled prior to election elec-tion day. |
