Show THOMAS O'fiRKN LEAVES JAPAN Toklo, Aug. 31. Thomas J. O'Brien, for four years American ambassador to Japan, sailed from Yokohama today to-day on board the steamer Shlyo Maru, to take up his new duties as ambassador ambas-sador to Italy. The departing ambassador was given giv-en an unprecedented sond off at Toklo. To-klo. A large assembly, representing all classes, packed the vicinity of the railroad station, tho gathering Including Includ-ing representatives of the imperial household as well as members of the new Sa'onjl and the retiring Katsuma cabinet A farewell luncheon lunch-eon was given In his honor by the American University club, before ho left th capital. The club Is composed of Japanese and American graduates. Mr O'Brien was transferred to Rome to succeed John G. A. Lelsh-man, Lelsh-man, appointed ambassador at Berlin in succession to Dr. David Jayno Hill, resigned.
