A sensation sensa-tion has been created among the people peo-ple of Belgium, especially those near the boundary of France and Germany by the military precautions which aio being put into effect by the Belgium government A military council was held yesterday yester-day at the villa of Lieut General" Hclle-baut, Hclle-baut, the minister of war, to consider measures to preserve the neutrality of the country In the event of war between France and Germany so as to prevent the violation of Belgian territory by either combatant or by Great Britain should tho country become be-come involved. Great military activity has been in evidence during the last two days Large supplies of shell for the frontier forte and rifle ammunition have been sent forward and additional batteries of artillery apd rapldflre guns have been shipped to reinforce the osts on all roads leading to the German frontier Specific instructions, It Is understood, under-stood, have been sent to tho commanders com-manders of troops concerning the blowing up of bridges and the destruction destruc-tion of railways should war break out. BRUSSELS. Aug. 30 Two special trains, carrying field guns and ammunition, ammu-nition, arrived today at Namur, thirty-six thirty-six miles southeast of Brussels from Antworp. The government appears to be making numerous rearrangements in the army and especially strengthen ing the eastern garrisons. |
