Show Local Hog Pool Will Continue Although sales were not made as planned at the first Cache county hog pool last month, the pool committee has voted unanimously unani-mously to continue operations and set Wednesday, . February 23 as the next market date, Chairman Hyrum Gibbons announced today. He explained that the first pool was considered a success despite handicaps. All bids received quoted quot-ed prices on a basis of off-car , weights at destination points. The apparent reason for this was lack of confidence of the buyers of the quality and weighing facilities. The first pool has increased confidence con-fidence inasmuch as the quality was excellent, the shrinkage light and weights dependable. He announced 165 head were sold in the first pool. Top prices paid was $13.50. Lights brought $13. stag and light packing sows, $11 and heavy packing sows, $10. All these prices exceed Ogden or Salt Lake market prices except on tops, which was the same. Tho net price received averaged more than $13 per hundred and at the same time saved tires, gasoline and time of the producers. "With the current hog marketing market-ing rush expiring, the demand for animals will Increase and the pool can operate in a more favorable favor-able position," Mr. Gibbons said. He announced that farmers wishing wish-ing the market through the local pool on February 23 should advise the county agent's office before February 16 of the number of animals they will have for sale.
