He not only won't take a drink, he hasn't for thirty years, and he'll fight for his privilege to retain a seat on the water-wagon. Runyon, the son of a journeyman printer, reporter, editor and general man-about-a-newspaper, "our od man" of Runyon's daily and widely read column, is probably the most popular reporter and short story writer in the country today. What will surprise many of his colleagues is the news that he is a veteran of the Spanish-American War. One of the most elaborately dressed and best shod men in New York City, Damon Runyon admits to one secret ambition.
