Show Local Board Has Jurisdiction Over Registrants No rea.uest for deferment of a Selective Service registrant from military training wil be considered consid-ered until his local board has sent a questionnaire to him, Major H. Arnold Rich, acting Stale director di-rector of Selective Service, declared last week. He also emphasized that a registrant can be deferred only on-ly by his local board and that no other group or person in the Selective Service System has jurisdiction until the local board has classified him. Employers and dependents of nrncnprtivp trainees who are sub- mitting pleas for " deferments in advance of the time when they come up for classification by their local boards, acting State director Rich said, "are merely complicating the work of local boards without service to the interested in-terested parties." Under Selective Service Regulations, Regu-lations, local boards must classify registrants according to their order or-der numbers, he pointed out, and said that when the time comes for the classification of a regis, trant, he, his employer, and his dependents will be given every opportunity to substantiate deferment defer-ment claims. Any information submitted before a registrant receives re-ceives his questionnaire from his local board, he added, probably would become obsolete and valueless. value-less. Employers in doubt . as to the likelihood o ftheir employees being be-ing called for Selective Service training should consult State headquarters where they will be given all possible information, acting State director Rich said. |
