Show Repayments of Loans By Utah Farmers Utah Wheat growers have made substantial repayments of their 1940 wheat loans during the past few weeks, according to Orville L. Lee, of Paradise, member of r the state AAA committee, with headquarters at the Utah State ; Agricultural college. J Repayments amounting to $83,- ( 761.38 have been made on the ( 1940 loans, he said. Of th 484 loans on the 1940 wheat crop in trie state, 93 have , been repaid. These repayments , have liquidated loans on 112,499 bushels of farm-stored and 56,-917 56,-917 bushels of warehouse-stored wheat. Under the 1940 program, loans were made on 848,487 bushels of wheat. Of this amount 645,922 bushels were placed under loans as farmstored wheat and 202,565 in warehouse storage. Mr. Lee said farmers of the state have been getting a loan rate of between 48 and 50 cents a bushel on their 1940 wheat. By placing this wheat in stor- i a at they have kept it from flood, ing the market and lowering prices. pri-ces. The wheat has been fed into the market in an orderly manner instead of glutting rall- j reads and terminals at harvest time. I He estimates that wheat prices i have been held v.p nearly double j what they would have been with- I out the loan pe-ram. |
