Show A HOME FOR THE AGED The Cache county commissioners, together with Noble Chambers of the Welfare board and John Mos-er, Mos-er, representing the citizens committee, have brought to public attention the desirability of constructing and operating a home for the aged of this county. It is stated that there are between fifty and seventy-five aged who cannot live with relatives and who must either be located in private homes or in groups served i by families attempting to take care of them for a consideration. Welfare workers are of the opinion that measures taken heretofore are inadequate and scarcely satisfactory. satis-factory. II. Kay Pond, speaking for the commission, requests the reaction of civic groups as well as individual citizens citi-zens to the proposals. A committee of those interested will visit the home built and maintained in Weber county during the next ween. It is likely that much good could be accomplished if such a step were taken. Old folks present a program which calls for the understanding of people trained in social welfare work. As well meaning as private individuals indi-viduals may be, it is doubtful whether they have either the time or training to render specialized service which could bring a full measure of happiness to the aged in their declining years. The cost as it is now of maintaining the old people could be used to produce more welfare services for tax money spent, according to advocates of this proposal. As Commissioner Pond indicates this is a matter which calls for the contributions of organizations and individuals who are interested in this phase of social welfare. The kind of home, the type of trained personnel person-nel to operate it, the location of the home and scores of other details should be weighed over before the outlay is made. This newspaper offers its columns to a discussion of this porgram. Any club or taxpayer with contributions to make, which will ultimately aid the aged of our com-munity com-munity are invited to avail themselves of this media. |
