Show THREE LISTED ON CASUALTY ROLES One Dead, One Missing, One Seriously Wounded Three Cache county servicemen were listed on war casualty roles during the past few days, one died in a Texas hospital, another is missing in action and the third is reported seriously wounded. They are: Master Serjeant Asael Wheel, er, 34, son of Sir. and Mrs. J. Henry Wheeler of Trenton, died January 2 in a Texas army hospital. Private First Class Paul G. Cardon, 34, son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Cardon of Logan, missinrr in action in Germany. Serjeant Glen Maurice Pond, 20, son of Mrs. Afton Sorensen, 484 North Fourth West, Logan, wounded in action in Germany. Sergeant Wheeler, whose widow Billy Wheeler, lives in Pyote, Texas, died of a mastoid infection. infec-tion. A veteran of seven years service in the army, he previously previous-ly had been wounded in action and was termed "recovered." A native of Lewiston, he was born October 4, 1910 and enlisted in the army in November, 1937. He served in New Guinea with the 19th bombardment squadron and was wounded after 24 missions mis-sions over enemy occupied territory. terri-tory. He returned to the United Stats December 23, 1942. Survivors include his widow, his parents, two brothers, Arnold Wheeler of Ogden, and Technical Sergeant Paul Wheeler of Reno, Nevada, and a sister, Mrs- Mary Hancock of Ogden- Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted Saturday at 2:30 p. m. in the Trenton ward chapel. Friends may call at the home of his parents from 1 p. m. until time of services. Burial in the Lewiston cemetery will be under direction of the Kenneth Lind-quist Lind-quist mortuary. Private Paul G. Cardon, whose wife, Irene Gooble Cardon, lives in Portland, Oregon was reported Tuesday as missing "in action November No-vember 27 with the famed Timber Tim-ber Wolf division of the First army in Germany. A native of Logan, he was born March 3, 1910 a son of John P. and Mary S. Cardon, 264 North Third East. Before entering enter-ing the service December 8, 1942 he was an employe of the Logan Cold Storage plant and was active in Logan sports circles. Awaiting further word are his wife, his parents, two brothers, Rulon Cardon of Lewiston, and Ezra B. Cardon of Logan, a U. S. railway mail clerk and Mrs. Katherine C. Heither of Pocatello, Idaho- Sergeant Pond, son of Mrs. Afton Af-ton Sorensen, 484 North Fourth West, was wounded seriously December De-cember 16 in Germany, the war department reported. Born October 15, 1924 in Paul, Idaho he was educated in Logan schools and entered the service in July, 1943. He has been overseas over-seas for 10 months. His mother is a Cache county deputy clerk. Sergeant Pond, a communications communica-tions specialist with the infantry, participated in the Normandy landings and the last word received re-ceived from him was in Luxem-borg Luxem-borg before the recent German drive. |
