Show Women Will Be Recognized For Outstanding Farm Work Farnr women who work on a farm in 1944 to save food crops for war use are to be given spc. cail recogniton as a result of a committee meeting held recently re-cently in Washington, the Utah State USDA war board announces. an-nounces. The committee, composed of nationally-known women leaders, met to discuss ways in whihe women can make an even greater great-er contribution to alleviate the agricultural manpower shortage in 1944. After hearing reports from War Food administration olcials that the farm labor situation would be more acute in 1944 and that war needs for food would be even .greater, the National Advisory committee of the Women's Wom-en's Land Army of the U. S. Crop Corps has recommended that WLA membership include any woman who works on a farm to save food crops for war uses. Requirements for emmbership in the Woman's Land Army this year were one month of service and at least 18 years of age. In addition to waiving the month of service, the committee also suggested sug-gested that consideration be given giv-en to lowering the age limit. Any woman or girl working on a farm would be eligible to wear the work uniform and the insig- j nia, with special recognition for j length of service. The committee also recommended recom-mended that an intensive campaign cam-paign for member.ship be carried on to meet, the increased need for farm workers, starting with a 'Woman's Land Army Week" early in 1D44. |
