Smithfield Girl Wins War Bond Lannice Moore Talks On Fire Prevention Lannice Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Moore Jr., of Smithfield, and a senior student at North Cache high school, was named winner of a fire prevention speech contest conducted last week by the Logan Junior chamber of commerce fire prevention commTt-tee. commTt-tee. Miss Moore delivered her talk over KVNU Saturday evening after af-ter being named finalist for her school in elimination contests conducted con-ducted last week. Captain Dell Iverson of the Logan-Cache fire department, chairman chair-man of the Jaycee committee, announced an-nounced that Miss Moore had won a $25 war bond for her talk. Runner Run-ner up in the contest was Calvin Quayle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jo-! Jo-! : Quayle, 183 Nort'T Second West street, junior student at the Logan Senior high school, who was awarded $10 in war stamps. Miss Moore, in her talk, pointed out that fires cost the nation about $500,000,000 and 10,000 lives annually, annual-ly, striking a home in the nation every 90 seconds, and declared that every citizen must do his best to prevent all types of waste durmg dur-mg the war period when time and materials are precious. |
