Show Dr. George Meyer Returns to USAC After studying the political ancf social life in South America for a year. Dr. George Meyer, professor of modern languages at Utah State Agricultural college, returned to the campus Wednesday and will resume teaching duties when Fall quarter opens, Sept. 25. Dr. Meyer spent most of the year in Brazil living with Brazilian families and learning their language. lan-guage. However, he passed through most of the South America republics re-publics and stopped in many of them. He returned to the Untied States by way of the eastern coast of South America to New York. During the year, he also lived for a time in TTraguay and Argentina. As an interchange professor, he taught English and received instruction in-struction in Portuguese. "South Americans are enthusiastic about English and everyone is learning to speak it, especially people in commercial fields," Dr. Meyer said. "Most of them are learning the language in order to understand the - American movies or to come to the United States." He also worked with the Brazil-United Brazil-United States Cultural union in Sao Paulo during his South American Am-erican visit. ''Brazilians are anxious to become be-come acquainted with the United States", he explained. "They admire ad-mire the way the United States has carried on the war and following fol-lowing the declaration of peace they want to become, partners of z 'the United States' younger brother' bro-ther' in developing and protecting the Western Hemisphere." |
