Show New "Furlough Gas" Explained A new policy in granting gasoline gaso-line to members of the armed services on leave or furlough will have a good affect on morale, stated O. Guy Cardon, chairman of the Cache county war price and rationing board. "Begining July 25, a serviceman or woman on leave for a period of three days or more will be entitled en-titled to one gallon of gasoline for each day of his leave," the chairman said. "The new rule replaces re-places one glinting a flat five gallons regardless of length of the leave or furlough." "It has become evident that the old policy, which resulted in giving too much gasoline to servicemen ser-vicemen who got many short leaves, was unfair to the man serving out of the country and returning after a long absence. To eliminate this unfairness," the chairman remarked, "the new rule tailoring the amount of the ration ra-tion to the length of leave or furlough, was worked out by OPA in conjunction with representatives cf the Army and Navy. Furlough rations will now range between a minimum of three gallons gal-lons for a three-day leave to a maximum of 30 gallons for 30 days. At the suggestion of the Army and Navy, no ration wil! be granted for passes (to Army personnel) Or liberties (to Navy personnel) or for leave or furloughs fur-loughs of less than three days. To receive his ration, the serviceman ser-viceman or woman should apply to the war price and ration board having jurisdiction over the automobile auto-mobile he expects to drive, and present his papers. The ration will be issued in the form of coupons or gasoline purchase permits, per-mits, or a combination of the two. |
