Show WE CAN'T AFFORD TO WASTE In periods of national emergency we cannot afford to waste. While we are generally regarded as a most wasteful people, due to our abundant resources, even we must sense the gravity of our present plight. No one can accurately portray the course that events will take but one thing is clear and that is that we shall be taxed to the utmost if we are to bring this present upheaval up-heaval to a successful conclusion. Man work hours must be conserved through healthful living habits. Consumer goods must be takeri care of as never before. Strikes or shutdowns cannot have a place in our present day fight for freedom. In short there is ONE BIG JOB. Every man and woman wo-man knows what that job is and they must know that what ever the sacrifices may be they will be paid for in full with a bonus of freedom and democracy. In Cache Valley we have to awaken to the need for conservation. .V" Automobiles run about the highways much as if war: was not here. We have not yet started Share The Car clubs or any other such plan to conserve automobiles and tires. We have gone on much as usual, believing somehow that we would come out all right. In the matter of food conservation we are exceptionally slow in responding to the need for storing up those food stuffs which we have in abundance. If steps are not now. taken there will be tons and tons of vegetables wasted this fall. Fruit will not be canned. Thousands of bushels of apples ap-ples should be either canned or dried, and not permitted to blow down and rot. This is total war, and that means nothing short of total effort. Every single person must be a contributor to the whole program and must lend their work to the one great cause of producing for Victory. |
