Show Beet Contest Winners Listed Winners of the sugar bee! growing contest sponsored by the Amalgamated Sugar company in Cache county during 1944 were announced today by Reuben Hansen, Han-sen, assistant county agent. To qualify for competition, one acre of beets had to be planted and harvested, and five boys and girls had to enter the contest. Record books counted 40 per cent in the contest, and sugar beet yield 60 per cent. Top winner was Denton Cole, man of Smithfield, who won a cash prize of S13. Others who placed were Ralph Olsen of Lewiston, Lew-iston, S12.50; Clair Theurer of Providence, S10; Denzil Coleman of Smithfield, S7.50; and Clain Zollinger of Providence. $5. Judge.s were Leo Nelson of Smithfield, Lorin Crookston of Logan, Lo-gan, and Clayton Raymond of Smithfield. |
