Show COMPLETION OF PROJECT CERTAIN Commissioners Remove Final Local Obstacle Pinal local obstruction in completion com-pletion of the Newton Dam reser. voir project in northwestern Cache county was swept aside Wednesday when the Cache county commissioners commis-sioners approved ' a resolution to relocate a county road which passed pas-sed over the old dam. Marcus R. Cooley, Jr., president of the Newton Water Users Assn., board of directors said that only fina.' reelase by the War Food Administration and the War Production Pro-duction board was needed and work could begin on the $30,000 canal system. Most of the construction work on the dam was completed last fall but no funds were available for the canal system, which is to include construction of two new canals', renovation and extension of the present systems, Mr. Cool- ey explained. Lack of funds was not due to excessive construction costs but rather through the original contract con-tract with the Bureau of Reclamation Recla-mation under the Case-Wheeler actt he said. At that time, several agencies not now in existence, had submitted proposals to build the canals as "make work" projects. Through the efforts of Congres- man Walter K. Granger and F. P. Champ, Logan, director of the U. S. chamber of commerce, the Bureau of Reclamation recently agreed to assume full cost of construction con-struction of canals for the project. Only obstacle to approval by Bureau of Reclamation officials, W. P. and W. P. B. was the lack nf a rip-ht.-nf-wav of a county road which crossed the old dam-site. dam-site. . Plans now have been made to relocate the road along the upper east side of the. new reservoir reser-voir and across the parapet to join with a state road to the west. .. L. .1 - To assure immediate action by the Washington agencies, the commissioners com-missioners passed the resolution which reaffirms an agreement with the bureau of reclamation date Nov. 27, 1944. They also have taken other steps required to clear project for construction. Congressman Granger assured the water users association that he was positive clearance for the work through WFA and WPB. would be forthcoming immediately immediate-ly as the project will not interfere inter-fere with existing work or payrolls pay-rolls in the immediate area involved. |
