Show Boy Scouts Will Aid In Aluminum Drive With the approval of the State Council of Defense, which has been delayed In communicating with the mayors in this area, the Cache Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America has directed to the Mayor of each incorporated town and to the County commissioners having jurisdiction over all unincorporated unin-corporated communities, a communication com-munication in which the man and boy power of the Cache Valley Council is placed at the service of these responsible officials in the nation-wide program for the collection col-lection of used and discarded aluminum alum-inum to help remedy a temporary shortage of aluminum in National Defense production. . Prom his letters to the May- ors and other oliicials, Presiaent Frederick P. Champ of the Council is quoted as follows: "The Boy Scouts of America have been requested by the Hon. F. H, La Guardia, U. S. director of Civilian Ci-vilian Defense, to give full cooperation co-operation to the program devoted to the collecting of scrap aluminum alum-inum throughout the country. We have been specifically requested to N assist by making the house to house canvass under the supervision super-vision of the local civic authorities. "It is our understanding that the authority and responsibility for organizing and making this drive rests with city authorities in incorporated in-corporated communities and with county authorities in unincorporated unincorpor-ated areas. "We are very happy to offer the servces of the Cache Valley Councl Boiy Scouts to assst in this important National defense activity. "J1: '- with . the desire of the officers of-ficers of the Council to assist the committees and local troops where-ever where-ever possible, and it will be likewise like-wise appreciated if you will call to our attention any failure on the part of our organization to ' function in full cooperation in the accomplishment of this objective. "Particular attention is called to the request of the National organization that this campaign be started before the Pioneer holiday and concluded by July 29." Vice-chairman Ernest G. Earl, in charge of civic ativities of the Counil's committee on Camping and Activities, of which Superintendent Superin-tendent E. A. Bateman is chairman, chair-man, joins President Champ in the above letter and will be in charge oi coordinating ine activities ac-tivities of the Scout organization. All Scout troops are being contacted con-tacted by the Scout Executive's office and asked to tender their services immediately to the responsible res-ponsible local civil officials, in order or-der that this campaign mal be gotten under way efficiently prior to the Pioneer day holiday in receiving re-ceiving those who will call upon them in this campaign and in accomplishing ac-complishing maximum results in the collection of scrap aluminum in this area. |
