Adney Named Head Of Board After 16 years 89 vies president of the board of trustees of Utah Statee Agricultural college C. C. Adney, prominent Utah Agriculturist Agricul-turist from Corrine, became president presi-dent of the board at its initial meeting of the 1941-42 fiscal year held at the college. Mr. Adney was appointed to the board April 1, 1925, by former for-mer Governor George H. Dern, and at the very first meeting of this board was chosen vice president. presi-dent. As president of the board, he succeeds Frederick P. Champ, who was chosen president upon the death of President Anthony W Ivins, first counselor in the LDS church presidency in 1926. The newly elected president and the past presidents were appointed appoint-ed to the board by former Governor Dern at the lama time. President Champ completed complet-ed 16 years of service on the board at the final meeting of the 1940 and 41 biennium on June 27. H. M. Blackhurst of Salt Lake City, a new appointee to the board for a two-year term, as vice president, R. , E. Berntson was re-elected secretary - treasurer. treasur-er. Leon Fonnesbck, local attorney, Ilof Nelson, local contractor and Mrs. Minnie Miller of Salt Lake City were chosen to act on the executice committee of fhe board along with the officers. Resignation of Leonard H. Kirk-patrick, Kirk-patrick, the newly appointed head librarian at the University of Utah, as Ihcad of the U S A C library was accepted by the board and David W. David, assistant at the Bancroft library at the University of California Calif-ornia at Davis, California, was ap-pinted ap-pinted to fill the vavney. Dr. Sherwin Maeser, professor of chemistery, was named acting head, of the department of chemistry chemis-try at the college in the absence of Dr. R. L. Hill, who has been granted leave of absence to go into the food division of the U.S. army at the medical replacement center at the Walter Reed hospital hospi-tal in Washington D. C. as a major. Additional appointments were Kenneth E. Hold instructor in chemistery; Edgar L. Sorensen, research fellow in argonomy; Lei-win Lei-win Wilkinson, teacher - fellow in crops in argonomy; Byrne Ferne-lius, Ferne-lius, graduate assistant in physical phy-sical education; and Ann Baxter, assistant in the college library. Leaves of absence were granted Dr. Hill, Alfred W. Swinyard, instructor in-structor on business administration, who has gone into active military service as assistant to the zone constructing quartermaster in the Const Artillery Corps Reserve at San Francisco as a first lieutenant; lieu-tenant; and Pay H. White, assistant assis-tant in library science, who has gone in'o military service also. All the board members were present at the first meeting wilh the exception of James S. Pres'.-wich Pres'.-wich of Iron county, who is a newly appointed member by Governor Go-vernor Herbert B. Maw for a four year term. |
