Show C1 - : Superintendent . Under the direction of Charles H. Skidmore, state superintendent I of public instruction, a survey i conducted of the Cache coimty I school district libraries by J. W. i Thronton shows the Cache school I libraries to be among the best in ' the state. Mr. Thornton, principal of Ferrer Fer-rer Junior High school in Pro-vo, Pro-vo, was appointed last year to make the survey of library faculties facul-ties in the various school districts of the state. He characterized the Cache systew as one of the foremost in the state so far as progress in. library facilities is concerned. . "The administrators of schools in the Cache district are library-minded, library-minded, both to an idealistic and practical way," Mr. Thornton stated stat-ed in his report. "Supt. J. W. Kirkbride, with his entire staff, cooperated fully and enthusiastically. enthusias-tically. A report was received from every school in the district which was identified with the library setup." The Cache District has a splendid splen-did library program in action, Mr. Thornton continued. The superintendent, su-perintendent, primary supervisor, principals and teachers are back of the library work. "Superintendent Kirkbride is the hub of all this library activity," activ-ity," he explained. "He has seen a vision of the important work that might be done among the children of Cache County if library li-brary work is efficiently introduced introduc-ed and carried on. I will quote from the library philosophy and policy of the Cache schools: "1 Every school a library. "2 Every child the privilege of a daily 40-minute exposure to a library of selected books. "3 Every book evaluated to meet child needs. "4 Every school with eight or more rooms having a full time librarian. li-brarian. "5 Every small school of one to four rooms to participate in a circulating library." The physical condition of all Cache libraries was reported at 85 average. "Cache county is certainly cer-tainly taking the lead in development develop-ment of library usage within all its schools," concluded Mr. Thornton. Thorn-ton. "It would be well if the entire state could see the situation situa-tion that exists in this county and feel the enthusiasm that is everywhere evidenced for the library li-brary work that is being done. ' "Great praise is due the , centralized cen-tralized authority for the leadership leader-ship foulnd in the superintendent's superinten-dent's office, which has p-omoted and organized the outstanding system of library usage in the Cache School District." |
