Show 3ave Clothing by Storing it Well Says Specialist Be sure you do a good job of putting away your summer clothss for their annual "rest" this season, for careful putting away keeps them in better condition and lengthens their life span, says Miss Susie Sanford, clothing specialist for the Utah Extension Service. "Check your dresses, coats, and jackets," Miss Sanford explains. Mend them if they need repair. Try to remove any stains from washable garments before laundering. launder-ing. Tub washablei dresses, and iron if you wish. Put these frocks away in boxes or on hangers in protective bags. See that nonwash-able nonwash-able dresses are clean, and hang them in garment bags that will keep out the dust." Launder washable coats or jackets jack-ets before you store them. If soiled nonwashable types need dry-cleaning. Put the garments on hangers, padded if possible, and store in rtrotective baers. If the garment is wool, or partly wool, safeguard it against clothes moths and carpet beetles by putting put-ting paradichlorobenzene crystals, balls, or flakes in the pockets and a bag of these preventives over the neck of the hanger. Then seal or fold the edges of the bag so moths or beetles cannot get in. Hang the bag in a cool closet. If you have some wool or part-wool part-wool garments that are not soiled enough for dry-cleaning or laundering, laun-dering, brush them thoroughly both inside and out and air them well before storing. Store as described above. Wash you bathing suit in warm suds rinse and dry thoroughly and store in a box. If it is wool or partly of wool, put moth crystals, balls, or flakes with it and either wrap the box well or seal it. Wash and dry your bathing cap and put a little talcum powder or cornstarch corn-starch inside it before storing. Put it away in a dark, cool place. |
