Show Out-of -Season Brooding Gives Additional Meat An abundance of feed wheat and a call for more chickens that should be an almost perfect set-up for the poultrymen of Cache county who have the facilities fa-cilities to brood fall chicks of the meat breeds, said Alphonzo Christensen, Chris-tensen, chairman of the county USDA war board today. A call has gone out from the secretary of Agriculture for poultrymen poul-trymen to produce 200 million additional ad-ditional chickens of the meat breeds during the fall and winter. If thest chickens are fed to about 3 pounds apiece it will give the nation an additional 600 million pounds of poultry meat to help relieve the shortages of red meat which are showing up. Mr. Christensen advised against the expense of new buildings or equipment in the face of war shortages of materials but pointed out that if buildings and equipment equip-ment which are normally used to brood chickens in the spring for laying flocks are made to double duty, the additional meat can be supplied without too great expense ex-pense Good prices for chickens should make such out-of-season brooding profitable as well as giving giv-ing the poultryman an opportunity opportun-ity to make an additional contribution con-tribution to the war effort, he .said. |
