Show COLUMBUS DAY. 'Friday was a gala day iu Manti;as elsewhere iu this great natli n, arid the Celebrations both morning anil evening were exceptionally good. The day opened bright and fair, the enn s'joue brilliantly and everything was brighter than usual. The expression on the faces of all as the school passed ty in their holiday attire, was full of merriment merri-ment and joy, mingled with reverence for brave Christopher , .'olunibus in whose houor the children were paiading. . The children formed in prossession at the tabernacle and marched on Main street to the court house aud counter marched to the tabernacle'. ' The little folks marched In with correctness and precision that was remarkable. They entered the tabernacle keeping time with the sweet drains of music furnished fur-nished by the Wetenskow kaud. There was nearly three hundred children in line and they filled the centre compartment compart-ment of the first floor of the tabernacle to its utmost capacity. Ea:h and every number of the programme was so well rendered that it would" be almost out of place for ns to make any distinctions, but these-were two features worthy of oar special mention. The eight l.ttle girls who were assigned nnmber eight on the programme "Acrostic Colambus," The little darlings were appropriately dressed; each holding a Kilt letter eut-pended eut-pended by white and blue; ribbon, spelling spel-ling Columbus. And the ten little girls who sang the ''Son g of Columbus day." The song was very pretty and pleaded the hearers immensely. We hope to hear more 01 these young vocal, ists later on. The morning celebration altogether was the best entertainment tot its kind ever given in onr city, and the teachers and pupils cannot be to highly complimented for the excellent manner in which everything wag carried car-ried out. It was nearly noon when the ! last strains of ''America" died away and the celebration was over. ! . - AFTERNOON, " j , Thtiafteinoon celebratiofi was largely attended and all were plea-d with the program and the excellent! manner in --which it was-rendered. The school children child-ren tootan important part in this cele ' bration, singing and keeping time to the music with waving flags. Every nnmber on the program was ablynandled aud well received. The recitation of Mi9S Lindsay aud tlie song of MissEtta Vorhees were especially good. Professor Nelson . was. yery pleasing to theMldren as, well aB.the older parties of the audience. The children were q-iite tired" and a little uneasy, something that was conspicuous con-spicuous by its absence duringjthe morning morn-ing exercises. Taken as a whole we dare say the celebration was never be. fore equaled in onr city. We are extremely ex-tremely sorry bnt a lack of spa?e prohibits pro-hibits a more detailed account of both celebrations or it wonld be given, |
