B making Snow College a branch of the U. U S. S A. A C C. and for lor a few minutes I was the center of a celebration staged staged stag stag- ed by some of my hilarious colleagues who cast me in the therole therole therole role of the bishop who had performed performed performed per per- formed one of the most imp 01 tant marriages in the history of the state I reminded them that there were were a lot of bishops who had helped with that wed wed- ding By the way what shall we call the school now I hope this change of administration administration administration admin admin- will be for the best 1 I hon honestly think it is the most ing development for Sanpete San San- pete that has occurred in a long long ong time However this new relationship will vill not bear fruit automatically It ha has great possibilities but like a 1 fertile field it will p p p-o- o- o duce nothing but weeds unless it is properly planted and cul cul- Those who are called d to till tin this field must have courage courage courage cour cour- age vision and imagination Come to think of it a legislature legislature legislature legis legis- lature is very like a setting hen It doesn't accomplish much until the last day We Ve have passed more laws the last two days o othe of the session than during the first firs t fifty days That doesn't mean mea n that we are in a hurry or care less Most 1 of the measures w we okd yesterday and today have hav been undergoing incubation the th whole session Some of the th most important intact were no nol I passed until the last hour of the th e session Probably a good yay to finish finis h this report would be an answer r to the question What were th the theten theten ten most important measures measure s passed by the legislature I No two law makers would agree agre e upon the same list but if w we e judge from the far reaching g effect upon the greatest number numbe r of people I think most of the them m would agree on most of the following following fol lowing First The highway bills 1 10 0 in number which increased th the e gas tax one cent increased drivelS drivers drivers dri vers velS licenses and truck license licens fees increased the penalties fo for overloading and changed th the formula for apportioning B Band an anC and d C road funds etc etc Second The partisan non judiciary judiciary judiciary ju ju- bill which aims to take tak our courts out of politics b by requiring judges fudges to run for o office of fice face on a separate headless balot bal ba lot Third The resident non-resident i income in come tax bill which will permit Utah to tax the incomes madin made mad e in Utah by non nonresidents Fourth The Emergency School building bill which appropriates appropriate to help a few scho school of districts meet emergency building building build build- d ing needs beyond their ow own local revenue Fifth The school bonding bill bit tOi t which will permit local scho school Oi Oio districts to issue bonds up t to o 4 per cent of the real value C instead of the assessed value of property for school purposes Sixth The old age pension bill which increased the gran granof grants of all old age recipients an and dependent children by about 15 per cent We Ve also obtained a ruling from the Attorney General General General Gen Gen- will recipient recipient recipient reci reci- 1 eral which h permit a to earn a considerable amount amount a a. mount each month without having having having hav hav- ing it deducted from his grant Seventh The Snow-A.
