Show I Ward Magel bY Named M Mantis Manti's anti Outstanding Young Man for 1946 Ward last night was named to receive the Junior Chamber of Commerce distinguished award for being Mantis Manti's most outstanding young man for 1946 He was chosen by a d' d committee of citizens not members of the Jaycees and the choice of Mr was announced by Leland E. E Anderson representing that committee who also made the presentation The presen presentation took place at a Distinguished Service Award r banquet banquet banquet ban ban- held in the North Ward Vard recreation recreation recreation tion hall and sponsored by the Manti Junior Chamber of Commerce This is the first time such an award has been made in Manti but from now on onit onit onit it will be an annual affair Judging for the award is made largely on the basis of 1 Personal contribution to the community from a civic educational educational educational and church standpoint and 2 2 Personality and character The one receiving the award need not be a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce but must be a citizen of Manti and from 21 to 35 years of age Mr is principal of the Manti seminary was a member of the Center Ward Vard bishopric during 1946 was active in work and i does a lot of temple work He is a director of Manti ManU Jaycees and has given considerable civic service in that capacity His main achievement however is probably the splendid work he has done and the good influence he has had with the young people of the community in and out of sem sem- inary His personality and character also helped much to make him the committees committee's choice President Elliott Braithwaite of the Manti Jaycees was master of ceremonies ceremonies ceremonies cere cere- monies at the banquet and introduced the various guests also LeRue Thurston Thurston Thurston Thurs- Thurs ton chairman of the awards a committee commit commit- tee Mr Thurston introduced Grant I Thorn of Springville who won the state distinguished service award for being Utah's outstanding young man manfor manfor manfor for 1945 as the guest speaker of the evening V n Ilg The invocation on at the b ban banquet n. n ban was offered by Morgan Dyreng and special music musie included two musical musical musical musi musi- cal selections by Earl Erickson and a vocal solo by Bessie Hutchinson Whitlock Whit- Whit lock |
