Show D DELTA E james angus kelley rites held james angus kelley affectionately known in delta and throughout a large section of 0 the state as dad kelley died at the bank hotel 0 of pneumonia sunday dad kelley was born in edinburgh scotland november 25 1860 1850 and came to utah shortly after he became of 0 age in 1872 and for or a time engaged in mining which was ills his occupation cu in the old country two years later he was married to margaret campbell also of scotland and to that union was born 12 children of 0 which four sons and five daughters survive together with his widow ills his surviving children are arc mrs airs margaret strang and mrs airs elizabeth martin 0 of torrence california mrs airs rachel strange of las vegas nov nev john kelley of mills james A kolley kelley hugh kelley mrs airs marie purdy mrs airs mearn stolz and william kelley of 0 delta ile he la Is also survived by 15 grand children and 7 groat great grandchildren fouron four of his grandchildren thomas Al marshall arshall james marshall duncan marshall and miss aliss Al madeline adeline marshall were reared in his home here and treated like his own children he was widely known and respected tor for his honesty and integrity af A ter coming to this country ho he prospered in whatever business lie he undertook for nearly 35 years he was with the union pacific railroad and did much work for that road when the great railroad builder E 11 II liar riman was reorganizing and reconstructing ting that road and was a great admirer ot of harriman after heter heair ing from the railroad lie he purchased a valuable farm at mills and was prosperous as a farmer and built up one of the best farms in that community in 1908 he came to delta and purchased a farm and several city lots and in 1912 erected the bank hotel which was the first brick building in it the town since that time lie he lived in delta and continued to improve his hotel and business property here and at the time of his death owned some of the most valuable property in the town the hotel being one of the best equipped nad most popular in the southern part of utah lie handled his affairs in such a careful and businesslike business like manner with the efficient assistance of his daughter mrs airs purdy that he continued to prosper throughout the depression and instead of curtailing tor for the hard times he constantly expanded and improved and added to his holdings here ell enjoyed the alte trust and confidence of all who knew him and was loved and respected by a vast concourse of friends lie he was a tireless worker but had much time tor for conference with the many friends who came to seek his advice the funeral was hold held from the second ward chapel tuesday afternoon conducted by bishop eugene gardner the speakers wore were james A kelly of fillmore J W murray and dark clark allred bishop wells robins of scipio gave the opening prayer and edgar lattery jeffery the closing prayer the burial was at the delta cemetery |
