Show j "Hucares" Cash Prize Has Two Claimants i "Hucares", The News' new columnist, col-umnist, found himself in something some-thing of a quandary when two high school students laid claim to the $1.00 cash prize he offered in j last week's "Here and There" column. col-umn. His award was to go to! the . winner of second place I in the contest for the best essay on "One Nation, Indivisible." The contest, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, came to an end last week, with Thorpe Waddingham winning the Lions club cash prize of S2.50 for first place winner. The contest judges declared Mr. Waddingham and Wallace Mastros first and second place winners for: the boys and Margaret Gray and Kathleen Fdtheringliam as fV-st ; and second place winners, respectively, respec-tively, for the girls. Miss Gray and Mr. Mastros both entered claims for the $1.00 second prize,! and "Hucares", w-ho desires still to remain anonymous, directed The News to turn over a dollar to ! each of these two claimants, which ' has been done. j |
