Show DISASTROUS FIRE AT PANGUITCH SUNDAY The most disastrous fire in the history of Panguitch broke out at 11 o'clock' last night and before it was gotten under control had caused dam ages estimated at $125,000. It is the belief that the fire started start-ed in the rear room of the Panguitch Cooperative Mercantile company and before the fire department could get water on the flames the entire building, build-ing, comprising four rooms on the , ground floor was burning fearcely. The big store was destroyed together to-gether with its contents, and the loss! is estimated at $50,000. It also is j reported that Liberty bonds to the ! value of $14,000 were in the safe! of the store, but Manager Samuel Worthen declined to make a state-I state-I nient concerning the bonds. I The Prince restaurant on one side of the store and the Sergeant restaurant res-taurant on the other also cought on fire and were burned, as was the Panguitch opera house burned to the ground and the loss is approximately: $40,000. Sixty per cent of the opera op-era house, which also was used as a ward hall, was owned by the ward. J. O. Prince, proprietor of the Prince restaurant, succeeded in removing re-moving the greater part of his furniture fur-niture and fixtures and his loss is estimated at only $2,000. The loss on the other restaurant is estimated at $7,000. i Everybody in town turned out to assist the fire department, but owing ow-ing to lack of water it was impossible to subdue the flames until the buildings build-ings referred to were destroyed. The work of the department and other volunteers, however, saved the remainder re-mainder of the buildings on the street. |
