Norma ChrlatenHen, a Kliident of the commercial department (if the Itiehfteld high school, won sif-mil sif-mil honor an a student of Hhorthand and typewriting in the first annual type-writ Iiik content held ut the Brilliant Bril-liant Young University early this month. Miss Christensen besides being award a pin by a typewriter company com-pany for being able to write 70 words a minute, won two full years' sehol-airshlpa sehol-airshlpa at the Brigham Young University Uni-versity ami materially aided her school In carrying off two silver loving lov-ing cups, and two pennants. The nichfteld high school won a majority of the events. One hundred twenty students representing rep-resenting sixteen high schools of the slate of Utah were entered. The contests con-tests were held under the auspices of the College of Commerce and Business Busi-ness Administration of the Brigham Young University. So successful was this first event that an Invitation shorthand and typewriting type-writing contest will become an annual affair. It may be held hereafter at a date Immediately preceding the annual an-nual Relay carnival. The following high school sent representatives rep-resentatives to the First Annual Invitation In-vitation Shorthand and Typewriting contest: Richfield, Logan, Davis County, Ogden, Provo, Wasatch Academy, Aca-demy, Wasatch County, Payson, Parlt City, Nephl, Cyprus, Bingham, B. Y. U., Jordan, American Fork, Lincoln. Salt Lake. Plans for the construe tion of a standard athletic field at the East high school have started, It is announced by Hugh C. Lewis, superintendent super-intendent of buildings and grounds, for the board of education. When completed complet-ed the campus will be one of the most up-to-date and satisfactory in the United States, Mr. Lewis said. The preliminary cost estimate for the work was set at $10,000. which, If let into contracts, would be about five in number, all below $5000, hence the board is undertaking the work Itself, It-self, Mr. Lewis said. It appears now that the field will be constructed at an outlay somewhat under the estimate, esti-mate, according to the engineer. Salt Lake. Utah has B97S head of Hereford, 4714 head of Shorthorn, 62 head of Aberdeen, Angus, An-gus, and ISO head of all other breeds. Tremonton. The Van Allen Canning Can-ning corporation, Tremonton factory, has contracted with growers for 600 acres of peas for the 1925 season. This Is just double the acreage of last season and will necessitate the Installing of more vineries and the increasing of the capacity of the plant, which is being done at the present time. Tbis acreage will consume con-sume two carloads of seed peas, with the probable production of fifty carloads car-loads of the finished product. Price.
